Dear Second Grade Families,
Here's a peek at what we were up to this week:
READING: We finished a two-week poetry unit. During the unit, we discussed and practiced using imagery, rhythm, rhyme, and alliteration. Ask your child about their alliteration ice cream flavor!
PHONICS/HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS: Our whole class high frequency words next week are: watch, catch, must, just. Our phonics lessons next week focus on the doubling rule for adding -er, -est, the rule for dropping the final e before adding a suffix, and the rule for changing y to i before adding a suffix.
MATH: We worked on double-digit subtraction and story problems.
WRITING: We wrote in our life books and completed an April writing sample.
SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL SKILLS: We have a social/emotional lesson each week. This week, we continue to review the steps of "peace bridge" that Ms. Stepan introduced for problem solving.
HOMEWORK:
READ or BE READ TO DAILY FOR 20 minutes
-math homework: sent home Fridays, due by the following Thursday
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
In May, we'll be doing a special marble run project in math. Over the next few weeks, please send in:
-brown paper grocery bags
-paper towel, toilet paper, and wrapping paper tubes
-let me know if you have beach towels you're not using the last two weeks of May. Much of our classroom has a hard tile floor, and we'll need some beach towels to roll our marbles on.
